Weekly Wittering: Prompt #16

Welcome back to Wittering of a Worldbuilder. Today I give you another weekly wittering in which I will be taking on a worldbuilding prompt and attempting to use it to delve into different aspects of my world – Egaar. I will be freewriting a lot of my responses and they will hopefully provide me with new, useful information about Egaar and its people. Hope you enjoy!

Mini Map #2: The Classic Tomb

Welcome back to Mini Maps! In these posts I share a small dungeon map from my world that is designed for use in tabletop roleplaying games. Today I present the Classic Tomb!

This map was created in Microsoft Paint using a simple gridded base and drawing the room shapes on top. I used interesting plans and images of real life catacombs and tombs to inspire this design and wanted to make the tomb realistic in nature as a common design for a relatively wealthy tomb. I have also tried to adhere to the classic 5-room dungeon design which is laid out below. This should hopefully allow anyone to cut and paste this tomb design into their own games.

Faction Intrigue: How to make Factions for your fantasy world?

Have you ever wondered how to create and track factions of people in your world? Be it for your own fantasy worldbuilding project, the peoples of your story or different factions in your homebrew tabletop roleplaying games; factions are a common sight.

So as a follow up to my Godmaker Manuscript and my Makings of Nobility guide, I have decided to share with you a guide I have created to help me to create and track the different factions of my world, to help me in running my D&D games.

It has been put together using a range of ideas and may not be perfect for all people’s needs, but I think it gives a good amount of detail and maybe inspiration for aspects you may not have thought about.

Creating a D&D Starter Town: Bleakwood Abbey – Basic Map

Creating a starting area for a D&D campaign can be a daunting prospect for new Game Masters. Similarly, creating a whole world for your games or stories can be extremely challenging and many creators would advocate starting small with a simple town or region, and building outwards. Therefore, creating a small settlement like this can be a more manageable start. Welcome to Bleakwood Abbey!

Battlemap Encounters #1 – Bandit Ambush

Simple Forest Road Ambush Site – Drawn in MS Paint

Welcome to my first attempt at creating a series of levelled encounters built around the same battlemap premise. In this Encounter map, I intended to set up a classic bandit ambush on a forest road. The Encounter ideas are scaled up for different level parties and are of course subject to DM discretion. The purpose of these posts is not to provide perfectly balanced encounters, but to give a variety of challenging encounters for your players. I don’t often follow the Challenge Rating system from 5e and prefer to design exciting and challenging match ups for players, using elements of Matt Colville’s Action-orientated monsters as well as the use of hazards, traps, terrain and dynamic environmental events. If you feel the encounters are too difficult or not difficult enough, it is up to you as a DM to alter the encounter as you see fit to match your party.

Creating a Religion – Part 3: Saints

Since my last post in this religion building series, I have done a lot of work on the Egaan Way, a dominant religion in my fantasy world. As a result of this, I have come to realise that Saints can play a far more important role in your world than previously described. Therefore, I have decided that this post shall be dedicated to them, in order to hopefully do them justice.

Species Guide: Wulvar

Today I thought I’d introduce you to a sentient species of people that exist in Egaar – The Wulvar! These are a bipedal species of anthropomorphic wolf-people that inhabit many regions of the world. In this post I not only detail the history, origin and culture of the species, but I also give guidance for using the species as a playable race in Dungeons and Dragons style roleplaying game.
