Fantasy Field Trip: Ludlow Castle

Ever stuck for fantasy writing ideas? Or struggle to bring a setting to life? Then turn off the computer, forget about writing for an hour and go on a Fantasy Field Trip! Whenever I fancy a break from writing I will often venture out to interesting locations nearby. Whether meaning to or not, I will often return from my escapades brimming with ideas and inspiration drawn from different places I visit. What follows is a documentation of one of my excursions and an explanation of my random thoughts and ideas drawn from what I have seen. Hopefully it may give you an insight into the random way things rattle around my brain and may possibly inspire you to view the world similarly. Enjoy!

Seasonal Significance: Spring

Throughout all of history the seasons of the world have come and gone with regular predictability. Be they explicitly referred to in traditions or simply followed by the lives of indigenous people, the seasons of the year wield great power over life as we know it. Consequently, they should be considered similarly important in your own world, as they can add life, interest and conflict to your world. 

With the recent passing of the Spring Equinox here in the northern hemisphere, it seems appropriate for us to discuss the significance of Springtime in our own worldbuilding today.

Pimp my Race: Dwarves

In recent years the common fantasy races have become a little stale. Too long have people used the classic Tolkienesque races in their writing, without making any significant changes. This inevitably leads to characters and plots becoming predictable and mundane. The purpose of this series is to change that. Here we will look at ways to spice up these classic fantasy races and hopefully inspire others to breathe new life into fantasy fiction.
