Welcome to Monster Musings. In this post, I will explore one classic monster from the Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual and either redesign it using historical myths or take inspiration from it to create a new, realistic creature that could exist in my world – Egaar. I will try to remain true to the original monster influences but am aiming to create something with a new and interesting take.
Today I thought I’d introduce you to a sentient species of people that exist in Egaar – The Wulvar! These are a bipedal species of anthropomorphic wolf-people that inhabit many regions of the world. In this post I not only detail the history, origin and culture of the species, but I also give guidance for using the species as a playable race in Dungeons and Dragons style roleplaying game.
Welcome back to Wittering of a Worldbuilder. Today I give you another weekly wittering in which I will be taking on a worldbuilding prompt and attempting to use it to delve into different aspects of my world – Egaar. I will be freewriting a lot of my responses and they will hopefully provide me with new, useful information about Egaar and its people. Hope you enjoy!
Prompt #8 – What are some of the pests of your world?

Prompt #6 – What ancient creatures of your world have been mythologised into fiction and legend?
Do you ever struggle to create realistic creatures for
your fantasy worlds? Ever struggle to understand how to create different breeds
or sub species of animal? Then today is your lucky day, as we begin our exploration
into building a fantasy bestiary.
Now there is probably some logical starting point for
this sort of thing, such as microorganisms or insects, but I personally enjoy
writing what currently piques my interest. So today we will begin with the animal
commonly referred to as man’s best friend; the dog. Whether this accolade is
truly accurate in today’s society is highly debatable due to the vast amounts
of other pets now owned by mankind. But looking back through history, the dog
certainly has a commendable record of service to humanity.
Let us now dive into the interesting history of the dog and explore how it was used, and indeed can be used in both the real world and our own creations. I will, as always weave in fantastical interpretations and ramblings as we go and may give some examples from my world to hopefully inspire your own creations. Enjoy!
